President Uhuru's Kin Kills father and is freed by Court

A 31 year old man admitted in court yesterday that he killed his own father in Gatundu South but was still freed.  Daniel Waweru Githangu was sentenced to three years probation by Judge Florence Muchemi after his mother pleaded for a non-custodial sentence.
She observed the only relief she can get for now is having her son handed a non-custodial sentence as the fate of her late husband is already sealed,” reads part of the probation report.
Waweru murdered his father Peter Githangu Thuo on May 27, 2012 at Kiriko village in Gatundu South district within Kiambu County.  He has been in remand for the past seven months.
Waweru returned home from work at around 1 pm and was very drunk. His late father was in the bedroom but went to where Waweru was seated and started berating him for coming home drunk so early in the working day.
After a heated exchange, Waweru grabbed a stick and hit his father on the head. He left his father lying on the ground and ran to his uncle's nearby home.
Police officer P. W. Mwita said Waweru was emotional when the details of the charge were read. He said Waweru expressed his deepest regrets for inadvertently killing his father. His body language depicted an emotionally repentant man. His mother and siblings said they have already forgiven him.
Mwita said the family had expressed their willingness to work with the probation office and to facilitating specialized counseling for Waweru.
“The offender has not had any cases of mental dysfunction and reportedly committed the said offence under the influence of alcohol," said Mwita adding that Waweru had expressed his willingness to be rehabilitated.
